On Sunday, July 1, Pastor Benedito preached from 1 Chronicles 29:1-9, which was about King David petitioning his people to contribute gifts to help build God’s temple. Pastor could not have chosen a better story to illustrate the importance of coming together to complete God’s work. Nova Aliança has a great task ahead as we are planning to build a new temple in Brockton , which is not to gratify people but to glorify and honor God. After the sermon, Pastor Benedito, just like King David, challenged the leaders of the church to contribute, in addition to tithing, towards the building of our new temple. The words in 1Chronicles chapter 29 came to life as the leaders of the church went to the front of the church pledging their three year commitment to help financially with the task. This inspired the rest of the congregation to give freely and wholeheartedly to the Lord. It was moving to witness so many people faithfully committed, especially those on fixed incomes, to this project. I see this as an investment for the future: to reach out to the Cape Verdean community so they can know God and have Jesus as their personal Savior. I pray that Nova Aliança will be the salt and the light to a community that has been riddled with drugs and crime. I am excited with what God has in store for the future.
